How to be more productive

Have you ever thought about being more productive, but can’t seem to figure out how to do so? I have and I realised a few things that helpen me to be more productive and feel better at the end of the day. Let me share some of my tips with you which will hopefully help you to feel better as well!

How to be more productive

Get up early

Now, I don’t mean getting up before 5 am (unless you really want to) (or have a newborn) (or have to go to work), but waking up early helps you to be more productive. Let me explain that based on my own experience.

Before: My husband has to get out of bed at 6am. He leaves the house at 8 am and I used to get up somewhere in-between. Usually with just enough time to prepare his lunch, which meant getting up at 7.30am. When he left the house our son would be awake so I would change and feed him and have breakfast. By the time it was 9am I would finally have some time to get out of my PJs and get dressed. Meaning I wouldn’t be productive before 10am.

Now:ย I have now made it my goal to be out of bed before 6.30am. I would get ready and dressed, do my make-up and prepare lunch, all before my husband leaves for work. We usually even have time to have breakfast together. When my husband leaves for work I would get our son out of bed and fed and we are all ready for the day around 8.30am. Which gives me an extra 1.5 hours I used to spend in bed staring at my phone or trying to get 2 minutes of sleep.

Waking up earlier makes it so much easier to start the day right!

 

Start the day well, have a morning routine

Waking up early is kind of useless if you don’t have a plan. I have had days on which I woke up at 6am. Went straight to the couch in the living room and spent 2 hours staring at my phone with my oatmeal in hand. It is great that I woke up early, but it did nothing for my productivity. So we all need a morning routine if we want to be productive! I’ll have a blogpost coming next week with an in depth explanation of my morning routine. But it is basically like I talked about above.

 

Plan your life

I have had a love/hate relationship with planners to be honest. I have tried several planners but never found one that I love. Until I recently discovered the Happy Planner and I am obsessed! I purchased one with an amazing floral design and it’s so pretty! Have a look at this one for example, how cute is this!

If you are not into a paper planner, I would recommend to just go with the calendar on your phone. We both have iPhones and still use that as well. It is so easy to have your planner on hand wherever your go.

Anyway, the good thing about a planner is that you can plan your life to make sure you are doing what you need to do. I need this, because if I don’t plan to clean the bathroom I might not do it for weeks (just kidding, sort of).

Planning your life brings me to these two important notes.

  • Give yourself time to rest.ย Planning your life doesn’t mean it needs to be jam packed! Absolutely not! Make sure you have plenty of time in the day to play with your kids, go for a walk or have your morning coffee. I make sure I have a few tasks in the day and spread my chores over the week. On Mondays I do the groceries and vacuum. This means I have plenty of time left to work, play and relax.
  • Don’t overdo it.ย This is in line with the previous point, but I want to point it out again. Don’t plan too much in a day. You only have 24 hours and most of that needs to be spend either in bed or with your family. Don’t let your planning drive you crazy and spread things throughout the week!

    1. Yes, totally agree! I just love the paper! I do scrapbooking as well, so I guess I have a soft spot for paper products ๐Ÿ˜‰ But the calendar on my phone is for my husband. Just to make sure he doesn’t plan things double. haha

    1. Hi Yen! That is a great question. I struggle with an afternoon slump every now and then too. I have been living sugar free for over a year and found out that you won’t have an afternoon slump when you do so. But after the pregnancy cravings and the little guy walking around I kind of gave up on it. We actually decided to get back into it this morning!

      But, what works for me is having a cup of tea and have one piece of dark chocolate. It does contain some sugar so it lifts you up, but won’t give you a huge sugar intake. And going outside always helps for me, but that isn’t always an option when you have to go to work.
      I also try to do as much as I can in the mornings to make sure I have some me-time in the afternoon. I use this time to play with my boy, do some reading or just watch a show or a vlog.

  1. This is great! I recently started waking up at 4 am (to work before the kids get up) and it was a little rough at first, but I think it is making my life more organized and flow better. Thanks for sharing.
